Macrobiotic Counselors:

If you are dealing with a serious health condition, you may want to seek the advice of an experienced macrobiotic counselor. There are a bunch of counselors out there. But because they have no national governing body, you can't always be sure of what you are getting.

Some important questions to ask may be:

  • How long have you been a counselor?
  • Is it your primary profession?
  • Where did you study?
  • Have you worked with someone with this condition before?
  • Most importantly, get the names of at least three people that he or she has worked with and speak to them directly.

The richest resources for counselors are:

  • The International Macrobiotic Directory, produced by Robert Mattson. This is a great resource with local addresses and numbers in all states. To order, email him at intermac@earthlink.net or call 510-601-1763.
  • strengthenhealth.org (Denny Waxman's institute, whose faculty consists of very good counselors)
  • kushiinstitute.org (The Kushi Institute, which has counselors)
